About the artist

Lashonne Abel is descended from generations of quilters who made their own masterpieces of scrap fabric and feed sacks, used cotton grown on their own farms as batting, and transformed leftover bits of everyday items into warm, beautiful quilts. Some of these family heirlooms still exist to this day.

Lashonne creates each of her unique designs at her quilt studio in Verbena, Alabama. She does numerous sketches and studies in her design notebooks, then hand draws each one of a kind design on a single sheet of paper. To create a quilt, she transfers the design to the fabric and machine quilts each creation with loving care. She then hand finishes the quilt binding in the traditional manner. Lashonne strives to create each heirloom quilt in such a way that it will stand the test of time and provide you with a gift of lasting beauty and heirloom quality.

Lashonne Abel’s art quilts have been exhibited at:

The Festival of Quilts in London 2006

The Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza 2007

The American Quilter’s Society Show in Paducah, KY 2008
